A Justice of the Peace (JP) is an elected public servant entrusted with delivering peace and justice at the community level.

JPs serve four-year terms and preside over Justice Courts in each Arizona county. There are nine JP Precincts in Pima County.

 

Their responsibilities include resolving criminal misdemeanors and civil cases involving claims of up to $10,000.

Justice Courts handle a wide range of legal matters, including:

 

• Animal Welfare and Cruelty Cases

• DUI Cases

• Civil Lawsuits  

• Workplace Harassment Cases

• Assault & Disorderly Conduct

• Reckless Driving 

• Shoplifting & Theft

• Requests for Orders of Protection
